Several researchers at the Physics Department in Trieste take part in fundamental physics experiments which do not make use of accelerators. These experiments have to do with astroparticle physics and with accurate tests of quantum electrodynamics and quantum mechanics, and their budget comes mostly from the Commissione 2 of the INFN (Italian Institute for Nuclear Physics - webpage). The researchers of the Physics Department play an important role in scientific collaborations at the national and international level, and they carry out their work together with the colleagues of the local INFN branch.
