In the Letters section of Physical Review D, an article by prof. Gabrielli on the physics of colliders linked to fundamental questions of quantum mechanics
The article “Bell inequality is violated in B0→J/ψK∗(892)0 decays” has just been published on the section Letters of the Physical Review D and selected by the Editor's Suggestion on the first page of this journal. Among the authors, prof. Emidio Gabrielli of the Physics Department.
This work, which is the result of an international collaboration between UniTS, INFN and NICPB of Tallinn, is in the framework of a new research area in collider physics related to fundamental questions in quantum mechanics, that could be also of some interest for a non-expert audience. In this work both the violation of the Bell inequalities as well as the phenomenon of entanglement have been established for the first time in various decay channels of the neutral B meson, with a significance that goes well beyond the 5 standard deviations (nominally 36 for the violation of Bell inequality and 84 for entanglement, for the most sensitive decay channel).
It is the first time that the Bell inequality has been verified in the high energy sector and mainly in the presence of weak and strong interactions.
