New Materials and Technologies for Solar Cells
Research Strand:
The research activity is aimed to the development of more efficient architectures for photovoltaic cell based on organic thin films and organic etherostructures. It is mainly focused on the spectroscopic and structural characterization in model systems of the various interfaces which are present in a real cell between the different materials of which the device is composed and to the parallel study of the efficiency of the real device with sun simulators. The electronic level alignment and the characteristics of charge transfer processes are among the most relevant parameters in determining the efficiency of organic based photovoltaic cells. By using synchrotron radiation based experimental techniques we determine charge transfer times at interfaces in the femtosecond time range that is the relevant one for this type of structures. This research is carried out in tight collaboration with Energy Frontier Research Center of Columbia University (NYC).
