New Frontiers in Science with Machine Learning and AI Agents
Two lectures by Francisco “Paco” Villaescusa at the Department of Physics – University of Trieste
We are pleased to welcome Prof. Francisco Villaescusa (Flatiron Institute, New York), an internationally recognized expert in the application of artificial intelligence to science and scientific computing. He will give two lectures on timely topics: using machine learning to address major challenges in science and cosmology and the growing role of AI agents in scientific research.
Thursday, June 19, 2025 – 11:00
Tackling complex problems in cosmology with machine learning
This lecture will explore long-standing challenges in cosmology and how machine learning techniques are helping overcome them.
Friday, June 20, 2025 – 14:00
AI Agents: a new paradigm for science?
An introduction to AI agents—what they are, what they can do, and how they are used in science. A live demonstration of building a basic agent in Python will be provided (bring your own laptop if possible).
Room A, Department of Physics – University of Trieste
The initiative is part of the scientific colloquia organized by the Department of Physics – Department of Excellence 2023–2027.
