Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) allows non-invasive investigations of the structure and function of the human brain. Besides well-known techniques like fMRI, morphology and diffusion-based tractography, methods that quantify the magnetic properties of tissue are critical to understanding microstructure. With MRI scanners operating at field strengths of 7 Tesla or more, higher spatial resolutions than at 3 T can be achieved, thus opening up new perspectives for the neurosciences.
