Searching a Quantum Data Base Using Noise"

Efficient retrieval of information from a database is a core operation in our digital society. Quantum physics holds the promise for a quadratic speedup with respect to existing classical search algorithms. Achieving such speedup, however, requires an outstanding degree of control of the quantum dynamics of systems of large size. This implies the suppression and corrections of the errors induced by the unavoidable action of the external environment. In this talk, we will challenge this paradigm and present examples of quantum search dynamics emerging from the interplay between quantum coherent processes and noise resulting from the action of an external reservoir. We will discuss how these insights can contribute to our understanding of out-of-equilibrium dynamics in the quantum world and of the mechanisms of their stabilization, and how they could pave the way for a novel class of robust quantum algorithms.
