Innovative semiconductor detectors for particle physics and beyond

Particle physics experiments at colliders with high energy and luminosity require innovative instrumentation to fulfil their discovery potential. This seminar will focus on semiconductor detectors operating close to the interaction point. Their key role in achieving and expanding the research program of experiments studying fundamental physics will first be introduced. The seminar will then present, through examples of technological progress, two crucial characteristics for their development and operation: high radiation tolerance and low material budget. Finally, the application of these detectors in a range of scientific fields, including medical applications, will be briefly discussed.
