"New frontiers in cosmology"
Prof. Cristiano Porciani
Argelander-Institut für Astronomie, University of Bonn (Germany)

Substantial advances have been made in the fundamental characterisation of the Universe as a whole and of its expansion history. The absence of a direct explanation for the late accelerated expansion and the missing detection of particle dark matter, however, represent a significant roadblock for achieving a deeper understanding. Furthermore, persistent conflicts between different observables call into questions some aspects of the standard model. After presenting a concise overview of the field, we will illustrate the challenges that cosmology will face in the next decade, and some of the new tools with which we will analyse the next generation of galaxy surveys, including the imminent Euclid mission of the European Space Agency.
