Galactic Archaeology in the era of Large Surveys

Prof. Francesca Matteucci
UniTS & OATS INAF

Galactic archaeology reconstructs the history of star formation of the Galaxy by means of the abundances of chemical elements measured in stars. Thanks to the data collected by recent Large Spectroscopic Surveys of the Milky Way, we are able to impose constraints on the formation and evolution of our Galaxy. I will review the main ingredients to build chemical evolution models and compare their results with abundance data. From this comparison we are able to derive the timescales for the formation of the main Galactic components (halo, thick-, thin-disk and bulge) as well as impose constraints on the production and evolution of chemical elements.
