A new National Responsible for the INFN experiment GMINUS2
Prof. Giovanni Cantatore, of the Physics Department, is the new National Responsible of the GMINUS2 experiment of INFN. He leads the Italian members of the "E989 - Muon g-2" international collaboration active at Fermilab, Chicago, USA. The collaboration has already obtained an important preliminary measurement of the muon gyromagnetic anomaly and is now continuing work on analysis in order to arrive at a very high precision result.
The early data published by "Muon g-2" have sparked a global review of theoretical calculations, which could cause an extension or even a deep revision of the Standard Model of fundamental interaction, the most precise and robustly verified scientific theory available at the moment on the microscopic structure of the universe.
