Relativistic and Particle Astrophysics

Research Area:

During the first half of the twentieth century, the observation of cosmic rays initiated the study of particle physics; today, cosmic rays have once again moved centre stage in astroparticle physics research, providing information about a wide variety of objects and phenomena in our Universe, and probing its structure and genesis at both the microscopic and macroscopic level. Modern instrumentation, developed for detecting particles in accelerator experiments, can be carried above the Earth's atmosphere on satellites, or used for Earth-based experiments. The main research topics of our group are "Cosmic Rays and Anti-Matter: Wizard" and "High-Energy Gamma Astrophysics: AGILE, FERMI and MAGIC".
