TITLE: Julia for astronomers

 

 

ABSTRACT: Julia is a new high level programming language specifically designed for fast numerical computing applications.  I will quickly describe its main features and compare its performances with those of other commonly used languages such as C, Python and IDL.

 

Then I will review the main Julia packages available today, showing that it is a suitable candidate to solve the long standing "multiple language" problem, and providing a few examples of how it can be used for effective data analysis and simulations in Astronomy.
